Hello and hope your days continue to treat You well.
It’s June (already) and we are quickly moving through the year -and- for the parents reading this, summertime with the Kids at Home! Even though your schedules will continue to be busy with all the summer activities, sports schedules, camps, etc., please enjoy the time with your Family even among the non-stop days ahead of You!
“In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.” (-Buddha)
As this year of my Encore continues to unfold in front of me, it is becoming easier to let go a little at a time. Bit by bit it’s more comfortable to shed what no longer serves me…it’s actually refreshing to peel back the layers and get closer to discovering underneath it all what it means to be “living the dream!”
When we are working and in the midst of our career, we were focusing on “climbing the corporate ladder,” upgrading to a larger home as the Family grows, buying a nicer car, more elaborate vacations, all the things You dreamed of. However, during retirement, the perspective changes.
We learn to focus more upon ourself and the “living the dream” becomes more about Freedom -and- I am not just talking about time. Actually, freedom is more about our inner peace…success is having the inner peace and being proud of the life You have created and live!
Our Encore phase should be the time to take stock of our life and figure out what is most important to You; seeing yourself in a new light. When we are not rushing to work or worrying about the future, we can focus on being more of the person we truly are and be for yourself and those around You.
Be careful of one thing; the tension between slowing down and staying connected to purpose – the heart of the energy challenge in retirement.
Energy is the fuel that drives our quality of Life in our Encore. Research consistency shows that retirees thrive when they remain physically active, socially connected and engaged in something meaningful.
Our Encore is not a time of life or phase to settle…we should continue to evaluate our Life and realize that there is always another level.
But first, hit the pause button and remind yourself to be grateful for all that we have and to treasure every moment.
This is the time to enjoy our success. And, allow success to be defined by how at peace You are with yourself. We learn the importance of aligning our Life with the right purposes and priorities. Be patient and clear on what is important in Life and what You want from Life.
This will permit You to enjoy your successes more -and- have a happier Life during our Encore, (although, this logic should be applied through out our Life).
Close your eyes -and- imagine what Life might look like if You do everything we should be doing; sleeping well, eating well, managing our stress, exercising, spending time with good people, avoiding drama and those that create it and having a purpose we love/enjoy doing?
This is what our Encore should be! And I will leave You with this quote:
“It’s a brand new day! Leave behind all your worries and troubles of yesterday. Make yourself a silent promise to make today a better day. Now dear Friend, a brand new day lays ahead of you. Face it with pride, because it is a Gift and is totally new. May all your goals and ambitions for the day be set. I wish you have an amazing day and night without regrets”. (-Unknown)
Please continue to take care and make the most of your days -and- always remember;
“Never quit searching, never settle and never give up seeking your greater purpose!“
