Looking Through My Rear View Mirror

Hello! Hope You have been doing well and making the most of your days.

Thanks for taking a moment to stop by ‘Terry’s Thoughts’ …always appreciated!

It’s been a minute since my last article. No “writer’s bloc” or procrastination. We were back in our Hometown visiting with Denise’s Mom and her Sisters.

As we were driving along I-70 through Ohio and checking the rear view mirror often while driving the interstate, I thought how looking through the rear view mirrors provided a perfect subject matter for an article.

Just as we look through the rear view mirror when driving to observe what’s behind us, so true with us and our lives. However, how critical is it to keep checking our rear view mirror during our life?

It’s easy to look back and question our decisions and punish ourself for them. We can’t blame ourself for not knowing back then what we know now. And the truth is, we made each decision for a reason based on how we were feeling at the time. Maybe the person we are now would have done things differently back then -or- maybe, just maybe, we are the person we are now because of the decisions we make back then?

During the past two years, I have learned to let go a little at a time, (more than I ever have in my life); a bad memory, a bad habit, people who have nothing but negative energy and letting go of old ways of thinking. Little by little we shed what no longer serves us until we realize who we are underneath it all. We should begin to discover that even though we gave up many things, there is no feeling of loss. What we have gained is far more valuable.

As Marianne Williamson wrote; “… our past is a story exiting only in our minds. Look, analyze, understand and forgive as quickly as possible.”

Just as we look through the rear view mirror and the road behind us fades away, so does our past. We have to quickly focus upon the road ahead -and- as I once read somewhere “… there is a reason the front windshield is large and the rear view mirror is small. What’s ahead of You is greater than what You left behind!” (or something like that)

Don’t look for everything to happen as you wish it would, but rather wish that everything happens as it actually will—then your life will flow well. Embracing the road ahead of You is key to living a fulfilling and meaningful existence. The road ahead is not something to be feared, but rather, it is an opportunity for growth and self-improvement

Trust your journey, it’s all going to make sense soon.

Please continue to take care and make the most of your days!

Never quit searching, never settle and never give up seeking your greater purpose!

Nicely done, Terry! As long as we look back and embrace the past, even the good ole’ days, we will never fully appreciate the present moment. There are reasons to be joyful in every moment and if we look for them, we’ll find them. Wishing you, Denise and your family well. Be blessed.
