Hello and Good Day…hope You have been doing well and enjoying your summer with Family and Friends. Hopefully, the air quality in your neighborhood has not been compromised from the wildfires in Canada and limiting your time outdoors. Here in Indianapolis, we have been experiencing the impact and our air quality was the worst in the nation the other day this week! Amazing to experience the skyline blanketed by haze/smoke from such a distance away. Please be cautious and safe should You have respiratory challenges.
Denise and I took a short escape last week to Madison, IN. Madison is a quaint, historic town on the Ohio River located in southeast Indiana. We stayed at a bed and breakfast and enjoyed the luxury a small town provides; no hustle/bustle, plenty of delightful small coffee shops, small retail shops/boutiques, small Family run restaurants with home cooked meals, -and- in this visit, history to explore and be reminded of and appreciate! There is also a wonderful state park, (Clifty Falls State Park), with several water falls and beautiful scenery to explore, ( the picture in this article is one of the waterfalls in the park – as noted , the water fall is not a roaring plunge at this time thanks to our extremely dry weather and little rain fall). Oh, and I did not forgot, only wished to mention last so not to draw immediate attention to one of our reasons for visiting Madison as well – wineries! We did return Home with several very nice bottles of wine to add to our collection.
This article was titled; “wandering mind, funny how it influences a moment.” I have to laugh at myself or is it laugh at how my mind works at times? Anyway, one afternoon as I was sitting on our room’s balcony enjoying a quiet afternoon, the nice breeze blowing through the trees and looking out over the Inn’s grounds. I was watching the various birds fly around and my mind focused upon the extremely large maple trees which graced the property. I thought, how amazing and skilled the tree service people are to be able to trim/cut these magnificent trees, (see I told You I have to laugh at myself and how my mind wanders to a specific thought pattern)…
As in many small towns, the property between homes is very narrow and the distance from the Inn to it’s next door neighbor was short and not much open space to operate or maneuver should there be the need to trim/remove the extremely large/massive branches of these maple trees. There was definitely no room for those bucket trucks for the tree service folks to have the luxury of standing in the bucket and work on cutting the branches -and- not to mention how to allow these branches would need to be lowered or dropped to the ground without damaging either house, fences or property?
I began to visualize workers climbing the tree and skillfully position themselves among the tree branches and using their chainsaws, which would have to be large chainsaws to cut through the massive branches. What a physical and skilled effort that would be in and of itself. Now, what skill would it require to have the massive tree branches lowered or dropped to the ground? Now, I have witnessed large trees being cut down. However, these were in areas with little obstacles or spacing challenges.
Sitting there in the rocking chair, enjoying the lovely afternoon, listening to the peaceful afternoon sounds of the birds and leaves moving in the wind, I let my mind wander to what would it take to properly and safely cut/trim these massive trees? Oh, I did enjoy this lovely afternoon, as I did the other afternoon/evening during our visit on our balcony. Although, I did allow my mind to interrupt and wander away from the pure beauty of this moment, to attempt and figure out the ‘how’ someone might attack this challenge of servicing the trees.
I guess there is nothing wrong with diverting my enjoyment in this case to a little methodical thought process. Oh, I would guess these tree service experts would use pulley systems to lower the massive branches to the ground to control not damaging the houses or property.
As I continue to enjoy this time of my life, this moment reminded me I need to take in the beauty of the moment and scenery in front of me entirely! Not to interrupt the moment of appreciating the beauty I am experiencing in front of me with a ‘how to’ thought , when it is not necessary to consider the ‘how to.’ ( the only ‘how to’ should have been how to enjoy this moment every day of my life!)
This ‘Encore’ moment of life is allowing us to embrace the freedom of not requiring deep thought all the time or how to solve the world’s problems. We should be embracing the moment and as I wrote about in a previous article of being in the “cogli l’attimo,” (Italian phrase for make the most of the moment) -and- make certain we savor the experience and time we so treasure -and- leave the tree trimming/cutting to the experts!
Please continue to take care of yourself and make the most of your days.
And, please have a wonderful 4th of July Holiday with your Family and Friends!
Never quit searching, never settle and never give up seeking your greater purpose!
