Balance and Meaningful Longevity

As we march through our years growing up/maturing, we are aware of our purpose, goals, aspirations and responsibilities. These were all right in front of us. For me, it was starting a new life with my wonderful Wife, (Denise), and our plans to have a Family; which we were blessed with two amazing Children, ( Kristin and Justin). I knew my purpose and the responsibilities were clear – provide care, comfort, safety and a life to nourish my Family’s growth through the years. Then there was work… the job to provide the financial means to permit me to provide and care for Denise, Kristin and Justin.

Through our years, we find ourselves struggling to find the ‘Balance.’ That fine balance between Family and work. Mainly, it’s the time factor with the hours, our hours, providing our presence with our Family and at the office. During the early years of my career, (80’s and early 90’s), that balance was easy to find/control. As the years moved forward and the corporate world shifted to more demand for outcomes with less, striking that balance was not as easy. I believe I did a good job of maintaining a balance through those years. Although I was always critical of myself not doing more with the Family balance in the last years of working.

And here I am, at this phase of my Life. I just celebrated my 67th birthday this week and having had that successful career, happy to say I made it to this phase of life! Very fortunate in so, so many ways -and- with Denise, Kristin and Justin -and- their Families have been truly blessed to have 5 GrandChildren, ( in age order: Roman, Leo, Trevin, Kaia and Silas), to further enjoy my life.

What I have learned through my first year of this time of life, is that there is no need to find and struggle with that ‘balance.’ The balance no longer exists… Why? – because this now is your time. No longer a struggle with work consuming those long hours, providing stress/anxiety, concerns, etc. interfering with your day and Family. It’s now Your time to provide more of a focus upon You, taking care of yourself, (health, mind and spirit, so You can have a long and meaningful longevity, ( there’s a very good chance we could have another 25-30 years ahead of us), and that’s another life time!

In my previous blog, I noted an important fact to accept; it’s ok to give yourself permission to relax and focus more time on yourself. Not just a fact, a necessity which appears obvious. However, I found I had to allow myself to accept this permission since my dna shapes me to be a care taker (of others) first and me second. This will not change, it’s the core of whom I am. Although, I will begin to ease into accepting it’s ok to take care of myself first so I can better take care of those around me.

Please, do yourself a favor -and- this is not just for those of us reaching this phase of our life, it’s for all of us, as You find yourself transitioning to a new phase of life or opportunity, relax, take that deep breath and make the most of the opportunity for You. This will permit You to find the joy and excitement this moment has in store for You -and- besides, You have earned it!
